New Hollywood film, Wicked, is projected to have the top-grossing opening weekend of any Broadway musical adaptation ever in the UK and Ireland, as well as North America. According to data firm the Boxoffice Company, the adaptation of the hit musical is expected to rake in $114m on its opening weekend in North America. In the UK and Ireland, the film is forecast to earn $17.6m this weekend, making it the top-grossing opening weekend of 2024. In North America, where Gladiator II also opened last Friday, this was the strongest weekend at the box office before the Thanksgiving holiday since 2013, the Boxoffice Company said. Federal Government Assures Nigerians of Low Sulphur Fuels and CNG
Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, stated this in Abuja on Sunday while inaugurating the Inter-Agency Committee on Fuels, charged with promoting the use of low Sulphur Fuels and CNG in the country. Lawal explained that the use of cleaner fuels would significantly reduce air pollution and human health challenges caused by high sulphur in petroleum products. He stated that high sulphur fuels had been linked to rising cases of asthma attacks, acute bronchitis, chronic obstructive lung diseases and many other ailments. According to the Minister, Nigeria Industrial Standards for Sulphur concentration in Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene had been reviewed, which was made possible by the ministry’s mandate and support from the critical stakeholders. Federal Government of Nigeria and Fundação Getulio Vargas of Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance private sector development in fertiliser production, hybrid seed technology, and agricultural finance. A statement by the Director of Information at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, explained that the deal was signed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Under the MOU, private-sector projects on fertiliser production, hybrid seed technology and agricultural financing are projected to attract $4.3 billion in private-sector investment. Over the next five years, the project, supported by Deutsche Bank, will identify and support one agribusiness in Nigeria’s 774 local government areas with technical and financial resources, driving sustainable development and economic growth.
