Federal Government Reverses 18-Years Admission Benchmark Into Tertiary Institutions

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has reversed the decision of his predecessor, Tahir Mamman, on the 18-years admission benchmark into tertiary institutions. Announcing this during his inaugural press briefing yesterday in Abuja, Alausa said what led to the initial decision was the way the National Policy on Education was designed. The education minister also promised to meet with JAMB and others stakeholders on the implementation of the 16-years admission benchmark into tertiary institutions. On the withdrawal of certificates obtained from Benin Republic and Togo, alausa says the policy would remain to help eliminate fake certificates from the system. Meanwhile, Vice- President Kashim Shettima has implored the 119 released minors to strive to be responsible citizens as they unite with their families in Kano and Kaduna States. Shettima made the call yesterday while handing over the 119 released minors to Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano and Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna, at the auditorium of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The vice-president admonished the minors not to allow themselves to be used to perpetrate violence and destroy public and private property. According to him, over N300 billion was lost in the protests, consisting mainly of private property and loss of business. Shettima also urged their Governors and elected representatives across political divides to ensure that the children were rehabilitated and reintegrated to the fabric of their communities.
