FG Halts Export Of Cooking Gas To Crash Price

From November 1, Nigeria will stop exporting locally produced Liquefied Petroleum Gas LPG, also  known as cooking gas.  Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, who announced this during a meeting with  stakeholders in Abuja, said the measure is to mitigate the price of the gas that has been soaring steadily.  On pricing framework, Ekpo said the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory  Authority, will engage stakeholders to create a domestic LPG pricing framework within 90 days.  He added that within 12 months, facilities will be developed to blend, store and deliver Liquefied  Petroleum Gas, ending exports until the market achieves sufficiency and price stability. 

WAEC Commence Computer Based Examination Friday

West African Examinations Council will from Friday, October 25, commence its Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates, until December 20, 2024. Its spokesperson, Adesina Fadekemi, explained that the CBT examination will have multiple-choice questions rendered on screen, and candidates would be required to give their responses  on the screen.  Similarly, the essay and practical questions will be rendered on-screen, but candidates would have to give their responses  using provided answer booklets.  Meanwhile, WAEC has also provided an option for candidates​who wish to use Paper and Pen mode, for the whole examination papers.   

2024 Nigeria Basketball League season to kick-off Friday

The 2024 Nigeria Basketball Federation Men’s Premier Basketball League season is set to kick off from October 25 to November 3.  16 top clubs are expected to compete in both the Atlantic and Savannah conferences of the league.  The Savannah Conference will take place in Jos, Plateau State, while the Atlantic Conference, will be held at the Indoor Sports Hall, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State.  The teams in Atlantic Conference include defending champions, Rivers Hoppers, Ebun Comets of Lagos; Hoops And Read of Lagos; Police Baton of Lagos; Lagos Legends of Lagos; Oluyole Warriors of Oyo State, Kwara Falcons of Ilorin, and Delta Force of Delta State.  Four teams are expected to qualify from each of the conferences for the final 8 tournament, which would decide the 2024 champion.

Paul Play Advocates For Proper Intellectual Property Law

In a recent podcast interview, Nigerian music icon, Paul Play, advocated the need to address Nigeria’s lack of proper intellectual property law.  Paul Play said the nature of his agreement with his then label, Kennis Music, has  made it impossible for him to make his songs available on streaming platforms.  He also shared that since exiting Kennis Music, he hasn’t received any royalties.   The RnB singer and music producer also raised eyebrows of some artistes sampling his music without obtaining due permission.

A Federal Government’s panel investigating the six-month correctional sentence of popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, have submitted its reports to the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.   Submitting the summary of a 109-page report to the Minister, Executive Director and founder of Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, Dr. Uju Agomoh, dismissed allegations that Bobrisky spent his terms outside the prison facility.   However, the panel confirmed that Bobrisky enjoyed some privileged treatments from prison officials, and recommended appropriate disciplinary actions against officials responsible.

Kenya Senate votes to Impeach Deputy President Gachagua

The Kenyan Senate has voted to oust Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in  a historic impeachment vote.  The Senate only had to find him guilty of one charge to remove the 59-year-old from office, but voted to impeach on five charges  out of a total of 11 against him, after two days of hearings.  The 11 charges — which Gachagua had vigorously denied — included corruption, insubordination,  money-laundering, undermining the government, practising ethnically divisive politics,  bullying public officers and threatening a judge.   He is the first deputy president to be ousted in this manner since impeachment was introduced in Kenya’s revised 2010 constitution. 

Quadri Aruna withdraws from Championships over injury

 Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna has withdrawn from the men’s singles event at the ongoing 2024 International  Table Tennis Federation Africa Championships in Addis Ababa due to a thigh injury and fatigue.  Despite leading Nigeria to a gold medal in the team event against Algeria, Aruna had to pull out of his second-round match against Benin Republic’s Dodji Fanny.  Announcing this in a statement yesterday, Aruna said he’s exhausted from playing in various tournaments for the past two months, but will stay with the team to support the younger players and will depart Addis Ababa with them this weekend.
