The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has attributed frequent grid collapses to vandalism and lack of maintenance in the past. Adelabu, receiving the report of the committee set up to address grid collapses in Abuja on Wednesday, stressed that most 2024 incidents resulted from vandalism and theft of power equipment, including the shattering of lightning arrestors in Jebba and Oshogbo transmission stations on Oct. 14, and explosion of a CT at Jebba Station, October 19. Nigeria Olympic Committee Begins Payment Of Compensation
The investigative panel set up to address Team Nigeria’s negative exposure at the Paris 2024 Olympics/Paralympic Games has recommended the payment of N8 million compensation to athlete, Favour Ofili. In a 54-page document, the committee, chaired by Mumini Alao, highlighted the conflicting evidence regarding Ofili’s omission from the women’s 100m at the Olympics, pointing to potential lapses by officials from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Nigeria Olympic Committee. It said AFN Secretary General, Rita Mosindi, and Technical Director, Samuel Onikeku, should be sanctionedfor their roles in Ofili’s omission, and advised the athlete to improve her conduct. The committee also recommended a code of governance for the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the Sports ministry, now known as National Sports Commission.
