Displaced people from Yelwata in Benue State’s Guma Local Government Area staged a protest on Thursday over the poor conditions at their temporary shelter.

Following deadly attacks by suspected armed herders that left many dead and homes destroyed, the victims were relocated to a camp at the International Market in Makurdi, the state capital.

President Bola Tinubu and several North-Central governors visited Benue State on Wednesday to discuss ways to restore peace and support victims of the violence. During the visit, the President also checked on those receiving treatment in the hospital as a result of the attacks.

However, on Thursday, displaced individuals voiced their frustration by blocking major access routes to their camp on George Akume Way in Makurdi. They claimed that aid items provided by donors and humanitarian organizations were being mismanaged by government officials.

One of the protesters, Fidelis Igban, expressed his anguish about starvation and the unhygienic conditions they are enduring.
