American singer Chris Brown has filed a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, accusing the network of defamation and emotional distress over a docuseries that he claims portrays him as a “serial abuser.”

The series, aired in late 2024, revisits Brown’s 2009 assault on Rihanna and other allegations of violence against women. According to Brown’s legal team, the documentary “misrepresents events and includes fabricated details designed to harm his reputation.”

The lawsuit alleges Warner Bros. “failed to conduct thorough fact-checking and intentionally sensationalised the narrative for profit,” falsely insinuating a pattern of abusive behavior while disregarding legal outcomes. Brown also accuses the network of launching a public smear campaign without allowing him to present his side during production.

“To put it simply, this case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth,” the complaint stated. “They did so after being provided proof that their information was false, and their storytelling ‘Jane Doe’ had not only been discredited over and over but was in fact a perpetrator of intimate partner violence and aggressor herself.”

The legal team emphasized, “Mr. Brown has never been found guilty of any sex-related crime…but this documentary states in every available fashion that he is a serial rapist and sexual abuser.”

Brown claims the documentary has caused severe damage to his career and personal relationships, arguing the network’s actions amount to defamation, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Warner Bros. has not yet commented on the lawsuit. While some fans and observers criticize the series as exploitative, Brown’s lawyers vowed to hold the network accountable for what they described as a “calculated and malicious attack” on his character.
