Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, stated this in Abuja on Sunday while inaugurating the Inter-Agency Committee on Fuels, charged with promoting the use of low Sulphur Fuels and CNG in the country.

Lawal explained that the use of cleaner fuels would significantly reduce air pollution and human health challenges caused by high sulphur in petroleum products.

He stated that high sulphur fuels had been linked to rising cases of asthma attacks, acute bronchitis, chronic obstructive lung diseases and many other ailments.

According to the Minister, Nigeria Industrial Standards for Sulphur concentration in Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene had been reviewed, which was made possible by the ministry’s mandate and support from the critical stakeholders.
