As the rainy season sets in, the Federal Government has launched the Nigeria’s Anticipatory Action Framework to enhance disaster preparedness nationwide.
Speaking during a framework validation workshop yesterday at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima said the framework is designed to shift disaster management from reactive responses to proactive preparedness by leveraging early warnings, local empowerment, and pre-arranged financing to save lives and livelihoods.
In his keynote address, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, recommended the enactment of a risk management and data sharing protocol, the establishment of a national risk and sustainable coordination centre, and early funding for anticipatory actions.
