The Federal Government has revoked the contract for the long-abandoned Suleja-Minna road project and threatened to drag the contractor, Salini Nigeria Ltd, before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what it described as deliberate neglect and incompetence.

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who announced the decision during an inspection tour of the dilapidated road over the weekend, expressed deep frustration with Salini Nigeria Ltd for abandoning the critical highway despite repeated calls to return to the site over the past 18 months.

According to him, despite being financially indebted to the government on portions of the project, the contractor failed to mobilize to the site, leaving thousands of road users stranded daily.

The minister further warned that if the contractor fails to comply with the ministry’s directives regarding the pending sections, legal action will be initiated through the EFCC.

Umahi also revealed that emergency reconstruction work has been ordered on the worst-hit portions of the highway under accelerated procurement procedures to provide immediate relief to motorists.
