A House of Representatives member for Aba North and South, Alex Ikwechegh, was granted bail on Wednesday by a Kuje Magistrate Court. The lawmaker was arrested and charged with assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, outside his Abuja residence.
The incident, which was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, showed Ikwechegh threatening the driver and making intimidating remarks. In the video, the lawmaker could be heard saying that he could make the driver disappear without a trace.
Deji Adeyanju, the counsel for the Bolt driver, confirmed that Ikwechegh would be arraigned before the court on Wednesday afternoon. The lawmaker was released on bail after posting a bond of N500,000.
