The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists, including a serving police officer, during a final-year signing-out ceremony at the University of Port Harcourt.

In a statement released Friday, Police PRO Grace Iringe-Koko said Corporal Onwukwe Godswill, attached to Elimgbu Division, and 200-level Biomedical Technology student Ifeanyi Israel were apprehended on September 26 during heightened tensions on campus over a potential cult clash.

Recovered from the suspects were pistols, ammunition, axes, and, following a further search of Onwukwe’s residence, a locally made pistol and two machetes.

The suspects are in custody as investigations continue to uncover the extent of their involvement and identify other accomplices.

Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju warned that there would be “no hiding place for criminals” and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.

Separately, police also arrested a security guard named Godday last week for allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Port Harcourt’s Trans-Amadi area.
