President Tinubu signs new National Minimum Wage bill into law

President Bola Tinubu today signed the National Minimum Wage Bill into law.

The President signed the bill just passed by the National Assembly during the Federal Executive Council FEC meeting held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

Speaking after the signing, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio who commended President Tinubu for signing the bill into law, explained that according to the new act, no Nigerian worker nationwide, will be paid any amount less than seventy thousand naira (N70,000) for their services forthwith. 

Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Senate President also used the opportunity to call on organizers of the proposed nationwide protest slated for 1st of August, 2024, not to use the opportunity to destabilise the country.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, assured that the government will expedite action on implementation of the new National Minimum Wage law.

Also Speaking, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Nyejiocha, commended the President for the swift response to the cry of Nigerian workers by signing the ACT into law.
