Sierra Leone Began Its Mpox Vaccination Campaign

Sierra Leone began its mpox vaccination campaign yesterday, targeting frontline health care workers and high-risk individuals, including children aged 12 and above, after receiving 61,300 doses from the World Health Organization.

Its Health Minister, Dr. Austin Demby emphasized the importance of the vaccine in combating the virus, highlighting continued surveillance and testing efforts.

The first phase of the vaccination rollout is taking place in the Western Area, with plans to expand to other communities.

The country has reported 125 mpox cases, with 71 active cases, 52 recoveries, and two fatalities.
