Southampton have been relegated to the Championship with seven matches still to play, becoming the first Premier League team in history to suffer the earliest relegation.
The team, led by Coach Ivan Juric, lost 2-0 to Tottenham, are also on track to set a new record low points tally in the Premier League.
Elsewhere, Liverpool’s 26-match unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end as Fulham beat them 3-2 at Craven Cottage. Chelsea’s bid to reach next season’s Champions League hit another bump with a goalless draw at Brentford, and Manchester City’s hopes of Champions League qualification remain in the balance after a goalless derby draw at Manchester United.
Other results saw Everton draw 1-1 with Arsenal, Crystal Palace beat Brighton 2-1 Wolves beat Ipswich 2-1, West Ham drew 2-2 with Bournemouth, while Aston Villa beat Nottingham Forest 2-1.
