In a bid to address the insecurity challenges in the country, Governors have endorsed the creation of State Police.
Thirty-six states submitted their recommendations at the National Economic Council NEC meeting chaired by Vice President, Kashim Shettima at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa.
Addressing State House Correspondents after the meeting, in Abuja, Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani explained that only the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) is yet to submit it’s recommendations, while affirming that majority of the governors have approved the creation of state police.
Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Council (NEC) urged state governments to key into the programmes of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU).
This according to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, is part of efforts to address the challenges militating against food security and their underlying causes.
The Finance Minister also disclosed that States across Nigeria owe the federal government a total of N16.6 billion,Â
while the states collectively hold surplus funds amounting to N363.4 billion with the federal government.Edun provided updates on special accounts, including:The Excess Crude Account, which holds just over $400,000. The Stabilization Account, with a balance of N33.3 billion. The Development of Natural Resources Account, standing at N23 billion.
