The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is set to launch a new housing initiative for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Northeast, where climate-proof housing with local materials would be built for them.

IOM Nigeria’s Chief of Mission, Laurent De Boeck, who stated this on Wednesday at a media briefing in Abuja, pointed out that since 2015, the Northeast of Nigeria had faced escalating violence, and as of 2023, an estimated 3.5 million people had lost their homes or lived in precarious conditions.

He revealed that the 2023 “Home After Crisis” design competition, funded by the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund (NHF), was part of the efforts to solve the housing needs for the IDPs as this would also provide a route towards integrating development programmes with humanitarian response to ensures that No One is Left Behind.
