US President Donald Trump has agreed to extend the deadline for negotiating tariffs with the European Union until July 9, following a “good call” with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Last month, Trump imposed a 20% tariff on most EU goods, later halving it to 10% to allow talks.

Despite earlier threats to raise tariffs to 50% by June 1 due to slow negotiations, Trump confirmed the extension to seek a deal.

The EU has expressed readiness to move swiftly but needs time to secure a fair agreement.

Both sides emphasize the importance of mutual respect to avoid economic harm, with European leaders urging diplomacy over escalation.
