Former cryptocurrency billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars for his role in perpetrating one of the largest financial crimes in U.S. history.

The 32-year-old was convicted in November of seven counts of fraud, conspiracy and money laundering, along with other charges of conspiracy to commit commodities and securities fraud.

Prosecutors say Bankman-Fried took more than $10bn from unsuspecting customers in “one of the biggest financial frauds” in US history.

FTX was valued at $32bn before it went bankrupt in 2022 and Bankman-Fried crafted a public image that drew in celebrities, politicians and business titans.
