The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Ministers convened in Abuja to discuss the withdrawal of three member states, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, which has raised significant concerns and security threats across the region.
According to Barr. Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional security cooperation during the opening ceremony of the Extraordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council.
Minister Badaru, accompanied by his counterparts from ECOWAS member countries, participated in discussions on pressing security issues affecting the region, with a particular focus on the withdrawal of the three member states.
The meeting aimed to address the concerns arising from the withdrawal of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso from ECOWAS, highlighting the potential security implications and emphasizing the need for collective action to mitigate risks and safeguard regional stability.
