Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has named a 55-man provisional squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations, AFCON2023, with only three players called up from the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.

Interestingly, all three players for the NPFL are goalkeepers; Bendel Insurancesuperstar goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Christain Nwoke, with Enyimba’s Ojo Olorunleke the last of the home-based selections.

The Super Eagles are in the same Group A as the host country, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau, who faced Nigeria during the qualifiers.

Jose Peseiro is expected to submit a final 27-man squad on January 3, which is 10days before their opener against Equatorial Guinea.
